Canadian One Dollar Note in 1954 Featured Both Yousuf and Malak Karsh

The 1954 issue featuring Yousuf’s 1951 portrait of then-Princess Elizabeth

In 1954, the Bank of Canada issued its third series of banknotes of the Canadian dollar. The banknotes were designed in 1952 following the accession of Elizabeth II.

For two young emigrant brothers who loved each other and loved the country that welcomed them so warmly, it was very meaningful that each of them should have a photograph on the Canadian One Dollar Bill – Yousuf’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the front, and Malak’s photograph of Parliament Hill on the back.
