Pioneering American broadcast journalist Barbara Walters was born on this day, September 25, in 1929. Walters was a working journalist from 1952 until 2015. In 1974 she became the first woman to co-host The Today Show, and in 1976 the first to co-host a network evening news program, on the ABC Evening News.
