
Jawaharlal Nehru, died on this day, May 27, in 1964 (b. 1889). Nehru was an Indian independence activist and, subsequently, the first Prime Minister of India, as well as a central figure in Indian politics both before and after independence. He served India as Prime Minister from its establishment as an independent nation in 1947, until his death in 1964. He was photographed by Karsh twice during his prime ministership, in 1949 and 1956.
