Madame Vieira da Silva (1909-1992) was a Portuguese abstract painter, considered a leading member of the European abstract expressionism movement known as Art Informel. Vieira da Silva was photographed in September 1965 in her adopted country of France, a couple of days after Karsh photographed Marc Chagall, and a couple of days before Serge Poliakoff. Both da Silva and Poliakoff’s portraits are newly added to this website.
