
Nelson Rockefeller was born on this day, July 8, in 1908 (d. 1979). He was born into great wealth but forged a life of his own in politics, philanthropy, and the arts. He served as Governor of New York between 1959 and 1973, and Vice-President of the United States under Gerald Ford from 1974 to 1977.
