The U.S. Supreme Court

Justice Byron R. White, 1963

The United States Supreme Court first assembled on February 1, 1790, in the Exchange Building in New York City – then the Nation’s Capital.

Karsh photographed many justices and chief justices of both the US and Canadian Supreme Courts. See a list here. We are hoping to add some portraits of the US justices to the database this year thanks to our ongoing relationship with the Court’s archives, who have recently supplied this portrait of Justice Byron White.
