Walter Annenberg was an American businessman, investor, prominent philanthropist, and diplomat.* Karsh’s sitting record notes him as “Publisher, The Philadelphia Enquirer”: Annenberg owned and operated Triangle Publications, which included ownership of The Philadelphia Inquirer, TV Guide, the Daily Racing Form and Seventeen magazine. He was photographed a second time, in 1990. In this portrait, his hand rests on a whopping great TV Guide book.
Annenberg was born on this day, March 13, in 1908 (d. 2002).
*He was appointed by President Richard Nixon as United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom, where he served from 1969 to 1974.
