Yousuf Karsh kept a card file record of each of his more than 15,000 sittings. The records begin in 1933 with multiple listings for the Dominion Drama Festival, an organization in Canada that sought to promote amateur theatre across the country which lasted, in one form or another, from 1932 until 1978. The Festival was held at The Ottawa Little Theatre for its first five years. This “still” from Romeo and Juliet at the Little Theatre is the earliest photograph Karsh made of which we have a digital copy.
